What I did this Summer 2020 was a very strange year Of Covid 19 we had a great fear Stay in your homes, get on your phones And drink lots of white wine or cold beer. I spent lots of time in the garden If you’re without one, I do beg your pardon I weeded and weeded, the lawn was re-seeded Where the mud had started to harden. In one corner we have lots of heather Which did well despite the hot weather Some are quite dark, and look a bit stark But others are as light as a feather. In the other sits G’s favourite shed Its painted blue cos I didn’t want red Inside there’s a mower, and a cool leaf blower “I’ll tidy it one day”…….. he said! There’s another shed sitting below In there sits a spade, rake and hoe Old tins of paint, that look very quaint A cement mixer, but that’s just for show. Our summer house is also bright blue From where we have a glorious view Its got chairs and a table, and so we are able To sit there and just bill and coo! We’ve got 50 plus plant pots and tubs And on one side some evergreen shrubs We’ve an enormous umbrella, we found in a cellar Like the ones that you find in some pubs. A friend gave me an old chimenea Which was great, cos there’re dreadfully dear We burn logs at night, it’s a brilliant sight And the neighbours have nothing to fear. G made on armillary in blue He said “it’s the best I can do”. The lawns are alright, not a weed there in sight ‘Tis a shame about all the cat poo!! There are artifacts scattered around With statuettes the place does abound An angel with wings, a windchime that sings 2 herons who are stuck in the ground. A meerkat sits on a rock A Greek God with in a very short frock Half a face on the wall, a hedgehog quite sma A huge dragon who will give you a shock. We’ve a birdbath in the front and in the back There’s really not much that we lack A green wishing well, some old bits of shell, A brass kettle that’s going quite black. We’ve got music, a fridge and a light Which looks great on a really dark night An old brass spout, from which water comes out It’s really a wonderful sight. I’ve got a bench that hides stuff inside And a BBQ that’s really quite wide Climbing plants galore, I’d like a few more But the hostas are my joy and my pride. We’ve got decking, a patio and grass So if by chance you should happen to pass Please don’t be shy, don’t just pass by Sit down and we’ll all raise a glass. To Gareth, who built it from scratch For the chaos he was more than a match But he just can’t rest, so I’ll put to the test More ideas that he’s planning to hatch. Addendum Steps down from the balcony are planned He says that he’s got them in hand His boss is away, so he’ll work night and day And when finished they’ll look really grand. .
Summer 2020 An opportunity to lose yourself outdoors, visit favourite places or explore new ones. A chance to appreciate the beauty of the land and sea that surround us, soak up the sound of the waves and birdsong around us; wonder at the fantastic weather. And give us much needed strength to face whatever challenges lie ahead.
Our world of innocence was caught unaware Will we ever escape this evolving nightmare? Don’t shake hands, don’t hug anyone! Death tolls rising everywhere Why are we only now becoming aware? That his deadly virus will not go away, Unless we listen to what they say! Take long walks on quiet paths, No rushed showers, relaxing baths! Panic buying, hoarding, human nature? Children worry about their future. Where can we go, what could we do? We are British, we will get through! Roads eerily, spookily quiet, Pubs and bars closed, Schools and gyms too, no protests or riots. Our world of innocence, changed beyond measure Keep in touch with family, they are your treasure! This was the summer of 2020 This was the summer of Covid-19 Still not gone away, will Xmas happen? Listen, act and follow what they say, And then wait and see!
Like a lot of people this summer I spent a lot of time in my garden this summer but as well as the mowing, the planting & the weeding I have spent a lot of time praying & meditating in the garden.- and still do. I have a sitting area almost hidden by an acer tree & I have a Buddha in the corner & it's a peaceful corner but I love to study my plants to revel in their God given beauty so here's a collage of my prayers Most of the photos are early summer whereas the Japanese anemones are early September. Sitting & commuting with nature - what can be better?!
